Behold! The Moments That Make Me Feel Alive…

Most days, life hums along on autopilot. We answer, hurry, remember, forget, and occasionally walk into a room with absolutely no idea why we went there. Then, without warning, something breaks through the blur. The world sharpens. The air feels newly made. I am completely, unmistakably present.

These moments arrive like sudden sensory resets. They pull me out of the daily scroll in my head and place me squarely inside my own life. I call them my Behold Moments, because when one finds me, my heart seems to throw open a window and shout, “BEHOLD!”

For me, they usually happen outside, while I am walking, watching, or simply noticing. Clouds part and sunlight pours through as if the sky has decided to make an entrance. A sunrise blushes across the horizon. A sunset sets the whole evening on fire and then, with perfect confidence, fades away. Even the wind can do it, moving through the trees with a sound that feels older than language.

In those instants, I feel the power of God… not as something distant or abstract, but as a presence woven through color, light, sound, and breath. I am struck by the same impossible question every time: How can anything be so simple, so complex, and so beautiful all at once?

Days come and go, each carrying something of wonder and value. The trouble is that wonder rarely sends a calendar invitation. It waits quietly, in the colors of the sky, in birdsong, in the hush after rain… until I look, until I see, until I listen and truly hear.

That is when I feel connected… to the world, to God, and to the truest part of myself. My soul settles. My heart dances a little. Nothing on my to-do list has changed, yet somehow everything feels different. Life is good, not because it is always easy, but because it is still capable of astonishing me.

I am blessed to have these moments often. Or perhaps I am blessed to notice them often. Either way, I want to keep my eyes open and my spirit awake, ready for the next flash of beauty that stops me in my tracks.

Because the moments that make us feel alive do not always announce themselves with thunder. Sometimes they are only a shaft of sunlight, a sky changing color, a formation in the clouds, a night sky full of blinking stars and a moon that seems to smile down on me. But if we are paying attention, we know what to say: Behold…..
