What are five simple exercises to do at home?
Exercising at home for me is necessary… as we age. It becomes clear that old saying, “use it or lose it” is real! I have had enough physical therapy to know how sometimes the seemingly insignificant motions do indeed help the body and as a perk… the mind and soul as well.
Walking, good for my soul and mind and body… strap on my hiking shoes and walk the acres and woods around me. A good dirt road stroll can heal the mind, soothe the soul, and stretch those muscles…
As I stand waiting on my coffee to brew… I channel my old PT days… a couple of exercises, squats and side leg raises as I watch the day begin outside my kitchen window.
Then… as I clean, and sometimes just to shake awake those little endorphins that hide… I tell Alexa to play my exercise Playlist and dance and move and groove to old tunes…. great for the little muscles everywhere and my soul.
Then, since beimg.on the floor is a 911 situation for me, I lay across my bed or recline my recliner and do sit ups and leg lifts… yes it works its another PT hack my physical therapist taught me….
And dont forget the upper body, with a bad shoulder that has to be babied a bit, I have formed a routine to stretch and lift handweights that fit my needs.
We can all do things, even if they seem insignificant, to stretch it, work it, move it and make your body feel stronger, keep your parts moving, and in the process your mind and soul both feel the heaviness and siffness of inactivity fade away… just remember if you’re just starting, BABY STEPS… exercising is not a race but an event!
