Faith, practical wisdom, and the steady stones that keep me moving…

My life is grounded in faith. It guides me, steadies me, and speaks through what I call my “God whisper,” that quiet inner prompting that reminds me who I am, who I want to be, and how I hope to live. I try to follow the words written in red in the Bible… love generously, forgive freely, serve humbly, and choose kindness even when kindness is not the easiest item on the menu.

Kindness can look small… a patient answer, a held door, a thoughtful message—but small things have a way of multiplying. One simple act can begin a domino effect in the world around us. We may never see where it ends, but faith teaches me that unseen does not mean insignificant.

My philosophy also resembles Aristotelianism… at least to a degree. I believe a meaningful life is lived in everyday reality, not in some imaginary future where the laundry folds itself and every plan works perfectly. It is found in paying attention to human nature, meeting life as it is, and seeking balance within it.

Happiness is something we all look for, desire, and sometimes dream about. At this stage of my life, however, I am less interested in chasing a constant feeling and more interested in living a life well lived… thriving as best I can in today’s world and flourishing within whatever circumstances I find myself in.

Aristotle taught that virtue is often found in balance, a principle known as the Golden Mean. For me, that means living with courage, self-control, generosity, and truthfulness. These virtues are stones along my path… steady places to set my feet so I can remain upright and keep moving.

Do I struggle? Do I sometimes find myself lost, wondering whether life is simply too much? Do I worry when I should be trusting and standing steady in the storm? Do I have days when I feel the weight more than I should—or more than I want to?

Yes. Absolutely yes…

Faith does not make me immune to fear, exhaustion, or doubt. It gives me somewhere to stand when they arrive. Beneath the noise, I hear that familiar whisper: Keep going. You are not alone. Life is still good.

Practical wisdom, or phronesis, as Aristotle called it, is central to how I live. It is not merely book-smart intelligence. It is situational judgment shaped by experience, habit, prayer, mistakes, and the grace to try again. It gives me the privilege of discerning, or sometimes simply figuring out as I go what the right thing to do is.

Character is built by doing. We become brave by stepping forward in faith and trusting before we can see the whole road. I become generous by practicing generosity. I become truthful by choosing honesty when a convenient half-truth would be much easier. Virtue is not a trophy we place on a shelf but rather it is a muscle we use, stretch, and strengthen.

Finding balance in daily life does not mean getting everything exactly right. It means returning to the center when I drift… to faith, wisdom, kindness, courage, and grace. Some days I walk confidently. Some days I stumble. Some days I suspect the stone in my shoe is there solely to keep me humble.

Still, I keep walking. I listen for the God whisper. I try to leave kindness behind me like breadcrumbs. I trust that a good life is not measured by perfection, but by faithful steps taken again and again.

That is the philosophy of my life… live grounded in reality, guided by faith, balanced by wisdom, and open to grace. Stand steady when I can. Reach for a steadying hand when I cannot. And always remember that even in the storm, life is still good, and I never walk alone.
