This morning, as I read today’s prompt about the secret to being successful in life, Faith Hill’s song The Secret of Life came to mind. That song has a way of pointing us back to the simple things, the everyday moments that often hold more meaning than we realize.
I believe success is measured differently by each of us. What looks like success to one person may not look like success to another. Of course, most of us would like to be successful, but the real question is: successful at what? Making money? Getting by? Having plenty? Sharing and giving until the day we leave this world?
It is true that we cannot take anything with us, and it is also true that it is a blessing not to have to worry constantly or do without in this life. There is peace in having enough. But wealth itself is not the measure of success for me.
The way I measure success is found in simple things: the view from my porch, the creatures that come to visit while I water the flowers, the quiet moments as I walk the acres, and the feeling I get when I open my gate and come home. Those are the things that remind me I am blessed.
Success is also knowing I have done all I could for the people I love, even when it seems they may not notice or fully realize the effort. It is building a life on a foundation of faith, one that keeps me grounded, fuels my hope, and gives me peace.
Measuring success by the simple pleasures of life makes me feel content and at peace. The secret to being successful in life is personal. It is something each of us must decide for ourselves. For me, it is not complicated. Overcomplicating things only makes life harder and more stressful. Sometimes the real secret is learning to recognize the gifts already around us and being thankful for the life we have been given.
