Reflecting on When I Feel Most Productive and What Productivity Means
Productivity is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? For me, productivity isn’t just about getting things done. It’s about making meaningful progress toward my goals, both big and small. It’s that sense of flow when I’m fully engaged in a task, losing track of time because I’m so absorbed in what I’m doing. It is for me too at times when I am still, when the quiet is deep, and my mind wanders freely through the world.
I am probably most productive (per society’s definition) when I start my day with a clear plan and prioritize the tasks that matter most. There’s something powerful about checking off items on my to-do list, especially when I’ve broken them down into manageable steps. Sometimes, productivity looks like tackling a challenging project head-on; other times, it’s all about finding creative solutions to unexpected problems. I am good at that, thinking outside the box. I am also getting much better at learning what I must let go of and what I can do. That comes with age, I say, and I am old, so this is the truth…
Productivity can be defined in many ways, but for me, it’s the combination of efficiency, focus, and purpose. It’s not just about being busy. For me, it is at times about being intentional with my time and energy and making sure that my actions align with what’s truly important to me. Ultimately, productivity is a personal journey, and it’s up to each of us to define what it looks like in our own lives.
