There is a certain kind of weather that brings me the most joy. It begins with a cool morning, where dew sparkles on the leaves and grass while the sun starts to rise. The sky gradually shifts to pink as the warmth spreads, and then the pink fades away, leaving behind clear blue skies.

As the day progresses, temperatures settle comfortably in the 70s and 80s. A gentle breeze drifts by every so often, adding to the pleasant atmosphere. These are the days I love most, especially during spring.

However, the climate is changing, and spring in the deep south has become a fleeting pleasure. Extreme cold and hot temperatures occur more often now, making the weather I enjoy increasingly rare. Mother Nature seems to be having a hissy fit some days, it’s as if her thermostat needs replacing.

This morning I woke to 57 degrees with a promise of a high of 90.  The world outside is in bloom, and the yellow plague is in its prime here. I will be out and about soon to walk about the acres before I do a bit more excavating in the flower beds. It is spring here, the end of March upon us. Tomorrow the weatherman calls for a much cooler day…rain is coming, it is much needed in our drought. There is a breeze, a light one drifting through this morning. And the sky after sunrise is now overcast, the sun peeking through off and on. But my soul enjoys a nice rainy day, with low rumbling thunderstorms just as well. We need the rainy days to make the green days… To wash away the pollen and the dust and make the colors of nature shine. If I could be anywhere, live in a perfect weather pattern, it would be cool and breezy, and become sunny and gracefully warm every day. I am a child of the sun, it feeds my soul. But the heat, as I grow older, grows heavier and harder to take.

I love your description. And I agree with you about the heat. I live in Arizona and the summers are getting rough.

In Arizona, do you have less humidity still? I tell you my southern sweltering humidity has me feeling like I have the vapors like Aunt Pittypat had in Gone with the Wind…
