What I would Wish for My Community…

I would love to see the local leadership shift from maintaining the status quo to actively embracing progress and innovation. It’s heartbreaking to witness so many young people leaving for brighter opportunities elsewhere, simply because the community resists new ideas or investments. If only we could come together and cultivate a spirit of collaboration, perhaps by supporting local businesses, creating spaces for youth engagement, and encouraging lifelong learning, we might start to see more hope and possibility here.

I dream about a community, one that is reminiscent of the time I grew up in, where neighbors band together not just out of necessity, but out of genuine care for each other’s well-being. I wish for a place where pride is found not just in tradition, but in our willingness to grow and adapt for the sake of future generations. Change isn’t easy, especially when fear and comfort are so tightly intertwined, but maybe a few small steps could spark something greater. After all, the countryside’s beauty deserves to be matched by the hearts and dreams of those who call it home.

We are now in the trenches here, fighting toxic landfills and data centers that threaten our natural beauty and environment. We cannot even agree on that. The good old boys club here in the deep south is very much alive, sadly. No accountability, the lack of education and truth, and the desire of those in charge to oppress the rest is active here. I have lived in small southern counties all my life and never have seen such a desire to do nothing better, have nothing. It is the sad reality of such places… but I see possibility here and mourn the reality that is ours. If only…
