Finding Joy in Everyday Moments
Laughter is the best medicine is the first thing that came to my mind as I read this question today. What makes me laugh? I am positive that the laughing I do is good for my soul. It comes when I hear the sound of kids laughing, see the antics of puppies and kittens, and sometimes just hearing others laugh can set me off as well. Laughter, like sadness, can be catching, I think. I find myself laughing when my heart smiles at what I see, hear, and take in from the world around me.
A good comedy sitcom, a funny movie, or a clever joke always brightens my day. Even a silly joke, one that reminds me of my daddy’s jokes, makes me chuckle and brings back warm memories of people who are no longer here and the special times we shared together. These moments of laughter connect me to the past and fill me with gratitude for the simple joys in life. Laughter comes from seeing goofs and minor misfortunes play out in front of me. I even laugh at my own mistakes. I laugh when tickled, and even when something so surreal happens, good or bad, that laughter erupts for unknown reasons. Laughter is, they say, a complex, mostly involuntary physiological response to stimuli… I say it is just part of the unexplained joy in life, and it surprises you. However, laughter happens to me, it is always welcome. It helps my heart breathe, my soul smile, and feel light. A needed thing in this day and time as the world seems to be on the edge of insanity more often than not…
