Rambling on about memories and dreaming of adventure on the rails…
Traveling across the country by train to me would be a unique and memorable adventure that combines breathtaking scenery, relaxation, and a taste of nostalgia. One of my favorite and most precious childhood memories is that of riding the Nancy Hanks train from the train station in Griffin Ga. With my Ma Reeves, to downtown Atlanta for a day of shopping and seeing the city. She could not drive, so my Pappy Reeves would take us to the station, where we would take the 40-mile ride. My favorite was to ride in the bubble car that was like riding above the ground with a panoramic view of the world. A train ride across the country would be a relaxing adventure. Rather than rushing from one coast to another by plane, a train ride lets you truly see the heart of the nation. Watching landscapes transform from bustling cities to rolling plains, majestic mountains, and sleepy towns gives one a perspective you can’t experience any other way.
The gentle rhythm of the train and the panoramic windows invite you to slow down and soak in the surroundings. Onboard amenities, comfortable seating, and the chance to meet fellow passengers make the journey as enjoyable as the destination. Whether you’re reading a book, snapping photos of the ever-changing view, or simply daydreaming as the miles roll by, cross-country train travel is an experience that celebrates both the journey and the vast beauty of the land. It has been a dream for me to experience this on an extended trip, but sadly, the railways of the United States have not been expanded for use by travelers. It has been my dream to ride across Canada on its cross-country train adventure as well. I imagine riding, having a bird’s eye view of the beauty that is all about us, and we seldom see. I lie in bed at night here and listen to the distant whoo-whoo of the horn and the clickety clack of the wheels as they make their way through the countryside near me. Yes, I would definitely go by train… a private stateroom, a dining car, and people to meet and make friends with as we go…
ALL ABOARD !
