Rambling about My Personal Overwhelm and the Search for Comfort and Control…
Holy Mother of Moses… Life feels like a whirlwind lately, much like Dorothy’s journey through Oz. There are moments when the world seems so bewildering, so packed with unfamiliar faces and experiences, that it’s easy to feel lost. It can be quite wicked in the “merry ole’ land of OZ” this world has become. I am weary of the strangeness and unpredictability that can surround us, and of the sense of being swept up in events we can hardly control.
Watching, absorbing, and processing everything around me can be exhausting. The constant flow of information and emotion leads to a sense of overload and overwhelm. It’s as if the mind, heart, and soul are working overtime, unsure how to sort through all the chaos. During these times, our thoughts may race, worries may pile up, and we might feel stretched thin by the weight of it all. I know I do… Yes, just breathe… look up, make sure there is no house falling from the sky, and BREATHE.
In the world now, we are fighting fascism, watching citizens being murdered in the streets. Our government is just walking away from things, those in power not serving the people, just their pockets. Crazy weather patterns are affecting us, wicked cold, frozen icescapes in places that are so bad, people are dying from the weather. Maybe hell is freezing over. SO MUCH HATE, IGNORANCE, AND FEAR. We have our regimes gestapo wandering the streets causing chaos, while the military carries out death missions at sea. AND YES, we have those heroic people standing up for democracy in the streets, heroes ALL!
When the outside world becomes too much, we crave the familiar, the simple, and the serene—the place where we feel most ourselves. It’s a wish to return to what matters most, to find grounding and solace away from the noise and confusion. As for me, I want to ease in behind my gates and hunker down with my mutt pack.
In times of overwhelm, it’s important to pause and give ourselves permission to step back. Whether that means seeking quiet, talking to a trusted friend, or simply taking a few deep breaths, finding small ways to reconnect with ourselves can make a big difference. Remember, even Dorothy’s journey through Oz was filled with companions and unexpected moments of kindness. We may not always be able to go “home” right away, but we can create spaces of comfort wherever we are or go. We need to Spread the Good and Be the Good when we can.
Feeling overwhelmed is a part of the human experience, especially when faced with new or intense situations. By acknowledging our feelings and taking steps to care for ourselves, we honor the journey… even when it takes us down unexpected and mysterious roads. Life is, after all, always changing, and learning to evolve as we go is necessary. Holy Mother of Moses, we are not in Kansas anymore… What’s next… Flying Monkeys?
