Ramblings on Billboards, Words, Life, and Seeking God’s Direction…

There are days when I find myself standing at the crossroads of my own life, heart heavy with questions, soul whispering prayers that sometimes feel too quiet to be heard. In those moments, I catch myself saying, “Come on, God, give me a billboard so I know where to go, what to do.” I’m not asking for a subtle nudge—I want neon lights, arrows, words ten feet tall. Because sometimes, even though my faith is deep and firmly anchored on the Rock, the path ahead blurs, and the weight of uncertainty presses in.

I start each day, and end each night, with devotions, seeds carefully sown in the soil of my mind, nourishment for a soul that craves direction and hope. They are gentle reminders that, even if the way isn’t always clear, there is wisdom and love to be found in the quiet spaces of scripture and reflection. And yet, if I had my own billboard on the freeway of life, I would use it not for myself, but for others—hoping to plant seeds of hope, to point some wandering heart toward peace. I know the ache of uncertainty. I know the longing for a sign. What a blessing it would be to send a message that lifts someone else up, that reminds them the light is still burning.

The world today can feel harsh… kindness often overshadowed by anger, weariness, and frustration. It’s easy to feel invisible, unheard, lost in the crowd of competing voices. But I believe a few shining words, a simple message of hope, can break through the fog. Imagine a billboard that reads: “You are not alone. There is still hope. Keep moving forward.” Such a sign could reach beyond miles of pavement and into the soul. In the darkness, we all need reminders that goodness endures and that grace is never beyond our reach.

There’s a saying: “We make plans, God laughs.” It’s a hard-earned lesson. Over and over, I have seen my carefully laid plans unravel, only to realize later that a better road was being paved for me. Life rarely unfolds as we imagine. The challenge is learning to accept change, to evolve as we journey, to surrender our need for certainty and rest in faith. Sometimes, the things we want and the things we are called to do don’t align with the way of things in our life. That is when trust becomes the bridge between what is and what will be.

Today is a day I could use a billboard. Not to tell me every step, but just to give a glimmer of hope, a peek at the light that never goes out. Maybe that’s the greatest lesson… the sign we seek is sometimes found in our own willingness to keep going, to offer encouragement, to let our faith be a lamp for someone else. And while I still ask God for big, bold signs, I am learning to look for His whispers in the small moments too.

So if you, like me, are searching for directions, know that you’re not alone. Whether your sign is a flash of inspiration, a single word of kindness, or the peace that comes in prayer, may you see it, and may you have the courage to follow the light—wherever it leads.
