Meat eater with vegetarian dreams…

Rambling on about protein consumption and the added love of veggies….

What are your feelings about eating meat?

I grew up a meat eater in a family that farmed, grew gardens, and hunted once upon a time… I am pretty  sure that cavemen ate meat because gathering could not be done year round, and food was needed that would give energy that lasted. I suppose i see it that way. Meat is protein, veggies ate the side dish that enhances the food experience.

I’ve been on a high protein diet for years, 7 to be exact. Getting protein in can be done with shakes and bars, which by the way usually come from whey, casin, or eggs, at times beef. While I love my meat, the veggies are the good stuff to me. I have not really ever found a way to get my protein in without the meat, poultry, and fish. I prefer poultry and fish…

If your asking today how do I feel about eating meat, looking at it as eating a living thing… no it does not make me feel as if I could die… it is how I was raised. I do know a few vegetarians, raised that way that have lived that life growing up. Their views are not always about eating living things but rather customs, cultural, and personal choice for various reasons… to be honest, for me its more efficient, makes protein loading an easier effort.  I have hunted and fished, I have chickens for eggs. I grow veggies because I’m an old Southern Woman and thats one of our jobs… as ‘Ouiser said in “Fried Green Tomatoes”… I concur. Plus, the gas from trying to eat enough beans and such, it’s just a bit overwhelming for me.  I wish veggies had the same protein content but until they do, im firing up the grill, reheating the oven, and cooking up the meat ! Now if chocolate had protein I’d be set…
