A Southern Tradition, Feeding Favorites…

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

Food in the South is more “favorite things” but traditional fare, food brings us together,  fills not only stomachs but souls and hearts as well. The favorites of my family have changed as they have grown, kids, grandkids, spouses. Just as I grew up with family favorite recipes from my my family, we still share them.

Thanksgiving still looks like it did when I was a kid, Ma Reeves dressing, turkey, and green bean casserole, deviled eggs sweet potato casserole are MUSTS. New Year’s dinner, collard greens, black eyed peas, stewed tomatoes and cornbread with meatloaf. Still a favorite! Easter dinner, with green beans, candied carrots, corn casserole, macaroni and cheese, glazed ham with raisins sauce. A meal full of favorite food.

All of these meals, the dishes they contain are welcome anytime but especially on their holidays. We did evolve through spaghetti and hot dogs and hamburgers, fish sticks and hamburger helper days… but my grown older kids ask for my granny’s Meat Pie, chicken and dumplings, and Chili as well as cornbread and cube steak and gravy. Food feeds a family.in more ways than filling their belly… it sparks memories and happy days…
