Walking through life, stepping into the days of my journey…

What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

Walking, just the normal mode of movement for us a humans. Bipedal human beings,  who walk through life. I suppose I’ve always been an explorer at heart even as a kid. I roamed and hiked my way through the neighborhood,  through the woods, through trails left by animals, and made by man. Exploring as I walked through life…

While walking seems like a natural motion to most, not really seen as exercise or even a skill, for me it is a triumph and an evolving benefit. There was a time, an incident that took away my ability to walk. I had an accident,  was paralyzed from the waist down. For 6 months I sat down, unable to walk, but gradually I found my way back from that. Doctors said they don’t know how, but I do… my daddy and God gave me the faith and strength to stand up, to move.

I can remember sitting in my wheelchair watching people, just watching them walk, skip, get up and down and wanting so bad to be the old me, the one who could take off and walk away, walk into the woods, walk out of the room, just walk and move… such an unthought of skill, something taken for granted by us.

So… walking, moving across the room, the yard, following a trail into the woods, or walking through a store. This is special to me, my favorite form of physical exercise, it is therapy for me even after 34 years of evolving and trying to stay moving and mobile. Walking for me is a gift, one I don’t take lightly, and it’s time for me to do that… take a walkabout around the acres this morning… my zen time, the time I talk to God, the time I feel most at peace…
