How would you design the city of the future?
First, I grew up watching the Jetsons on Saturday morning and I imagined the future to be that… at least in the city. As a country girl who cherishes the solitude of my acres and dead-end dirt road existence, the city I see would be more environmentally friendly. I can see buildings that are covered in plants and moss to help with the air, I see rooftop gardens and city plots that help neighborhoods grow fresh food. Public transportation that would enable people to go where they need to without effort and stress, helping people live easier, and the environment too. A place that is full of convenience and less chaos.
But we all have dreams of the future, I’ve lived long enough to see the current future, and it is sad, chaotic, and the streets, woods, and undeveloped and decaying areas are filled with camps full of people who can’t find a home, or keep it because of greed and the failure of modern society. In the cartoon world of the future, everything was easy, robotic, but the family unit was still living in the 60s style of life.
I’d develop a city that had space for everyone to be housed, with opportunities to meet the needs of everyone, and to be kinder to the environment. Yes, a dreamworld…
