Breathing Easy at the End of the Road

A Day of Solitude at the edge of the Swamp…..

Sometimes you need a day to breathe… TODAY is that day, a day to let the world hush its relentless noise, to step away from the thrum of expectation and slip quietly into the wide, waiting arms of solitude. There is magic in living at the end of a dead-end dirt road, where the tire tracks fade into soft earth, and the only signs of life are the chorus of frogs and the slow, gliding shadows of the hawks flying overhead.

At the edge of the swamp, the air feels different—thicker, fragrant with the wild sweetness of wild shrub and the rich, earthy scent of moss and decay beneath the thick trees. Sunlight dapples through the oak branches, painting shifting patterns on the ground beneath. Here, the hush is not silence, but a language of its own: the croak of hidden bullfrogs, the constant hum of cicadas, the lyrical chatter of birds and the rustle of squirrels as they flit across the leaf littered ground and scamper up into the treetops.

It’s here, at the world’s quiet margin, that you can breathe in deeply… filling your lungs with something clean and ancient. The worries that cling so tightly in the city dissolve in the thick humid air. The deadlines, the voices, the screens, all seem impossibly far away, as though they belong to another life entirely.

On a day like this, you might walk barefoot down the sun-warmed path, the dust rising in little puffs behind you. Maybe you’ll perch on the bench next to the pond and its floating lilies or even cast a line into the tea-colored water, watching dragonflies dart about above the lilies. The world feels both endless and intimate, and you are exactly where you’re meant to be. I am home… at my Swampy Bottom Acres.

Sometimes you need a day to let yourself go soft and quiet, to remember that there is more to life than the next thing on the list. To listen. To notice. To breathe. And at the end of a dead-end dirt road in the swamp, you find not just solitude, but a gentle kind of belonging… a reminder that even in the wildest places, peace is waiting for you to arrive. Take a day.. Make it your day, listen to the silence, breathe in the peace, soothe your soul set it free…
JUST BE….
