What would you change about modern society?
Dreaming of what I could change about what I once thought of as “modern society” floods my mind with questions and memories. What would I change, and would the changes even help or change anything? I thought the years I’d spent in this world watching, voting, trying to make change, and being a part of decision-making in the public was making a better world here. I thought we were building a better world, a place for “We the people.”
We have come to a point in this world, in this country, where all the good as well as the progressive decisions that we had seemed to make seem useless, benign. It feels as if we are living in a dystopian place, one where the truth is so hard to find, and nothing seems to be real. So much hate, so much racism, and bigotry. SO much ignorance… the country I grew up loving, proud of, is on a downward spiral that is sure to lead to a catastrophic impact on us all.
I would like to change the minds of people, take away the hate, and unreasonable behavior that seems to be becoming normal. I wish we could all be accepting and kind as well as considerate. I wish we could all live together as one, and realize each other’s contributions and places in the world. That we could be strong together, we were strong. “We the People” could make this country the place to be. Mostly, I would like to feel safe, to be heard, to be at home in the place I love. I refuse to be quiet, to silently sit by and watch white supremacy and so-called Christians destroy the humanity and heart of our nation. We have to be the change or this modern society will be a replay of a past that was cruel, inhumane, and destroyed the lives of millions.
