Under the knife: bionic and curative operations…

Have you ever had surgery? What for?

Surgeries are performed for various reasons, elective ones, needed ones, and Life-saving ones… I’ve had Surgeries in my life, necessary ones and ones to rebuild what is wearing out… the first was in 1978, I had a tubal ligation. I got pregnant twice. On birth control. That fixed that, kinda, then I had a tubal pregnancy they said, had a DNC in 1980. In 2006 I had been having some issues they brushed off as I was overdoing things, but a PA didn’t think that was it I ended up in the hospital for gallbladder surgery. Fixed that! Then as time took a toll on my disabilities,  my left ankle turned and became a painful useless mess, in 2017 I found a doctor to rebuild my paralyzed ankle and give me back my mobility! When I could move again, there was a 3-month recoup, no weight on the foot, cast on and off. I decided on weight loss surgery, and had a gastric sleeve. Easy peasy… lost 170 pounds, feel better, and moving easier! Then in a year and a half, I had a knee replacement for my worn out right knee! Then my years of using a walker and weighing  400 lbs began to tell, so carpel tunnel surgery on both hands helped me to be better still.

Surgeries have helped me feel better, and have taken out parts I didn’t need or were worn out. Building a better me to finish this journey called life with… my grandkids call me the bionic Naynay. I’m just an ole woman, trying to stay moving and doing. The eye doctor says it’s about cataract time, I dread that one. For some reason, it scares me. But I’ll do that too. We do it, surgery, to be better, to live easier, to heal, to cure… I’m grateful for the chance to be better, but don’t take it lightly, It is always a risk, but as my husband said with all his cancer surgery, “there’s no expiration date stamped on my foot, I’m not going until God says…” there will be issues in life, I weigh the benefits and go with my heart.
